In-Person Classes
Depending on your skill level and experience, a variety of classes are offered.
All classes are run as either a 4 or 6 week set with the Continuing Odour class having ‘drop-ins’ for Nose Work Passion students.
All classes of 5-7 teams are 90 minutes long. Classes with 3-4 teams run for 60 minutes.
Classes are either Primary – searching for food at first to build up the search drive and foundation skills or, ultimately, Odour classes.
All new dogs are started on Primary.
** In ALL nose work classes, the dogs work one at a time and other dogs are not present. **
Available In-Person Classes
Introduction to Nosework
6 week set – 90 minutes each
Your dog is the subject matter expert – they have the nose! Building on their natural hunting skills and the start of learning to read your dog’s body language are key to this class.
We increase skills and work on foundations. Each dog is treated individually. I love games so I make sure to incorporate some fun game style competitions in the classes.
Nose Work Advanced
4 week set – 90 minutes each
Continuing on the foundation work for the dogs and more work on the handling and reading of your K9 partner.
Advanced 2 & Advanced 3
4 week sets each
Very specific focused sets with more advanced dog skills plus handler and leash skills.
These courses are prerequisites to Introduction to Odour. The instructor will advise each team about when they can move to the Odour class. Dogs who have been through this program move to Odour with ease and with advanced searching skills that they learned in the previous classes.
Introduction to Odour
4 week set – 90 minutes each
Your search dog, with all the skills built from the first levels, brings those skills to this level and now learns to build value for odour. Handler learns their new role. Odour information and odour handling techniques are taught to the human half of the team. Foundation work is continued.
Odour Intermediate
This set consists of 4 core classes that are important for future competition and enrichment.
Continuing Odour
Drop-in for Nose Work Passion students
Credits bought and the students apply them to available dates. As of February 15, credits will be good for 6 months.
Teams move to CO level from the Odour Intermediate class. We continue to work on foundation skills adding twists plus more fun and complicated searches. As always, sustaining and increasing hunt drive and problem solving are highlighted along with emphasis on reading your K9 partner. Field trips are possible as well as mock trials and Odour Recognition Tests.
